65th Anniversary celebrated with Opening Day SundayHarrington Raceway will celebrate its 65th season of live harness racing Sunday April 17 with opening day of the scheduled 108-day meet.
There will be 65-cent live racing programs, 65 cent hot dogs, as well as a hat giveaway (beginning at 5 p.m., while supplies last). Free family entertainment will also be available with face painting, pony rides and a petting zoo in the grandstand.
As for the racing, a 15-race card is scheduled with the co-features being the fifth race and seventh races. events for $20,000 claimers. Ross Wolfenden, the 2010 leading driver, will be back to defend his title and is scheduled to compete in nearly all but two races on opening day. Meanwhile, leading trainer Tim Crissman will look to start the meet on the right foot, with five horses from his stable in action Sunday.
Two milestones among regulars in the driving colony are expected to be reached early in the meet. Driver George Dennis is just five wins from 4,000 and Art Stafford Jr. currently needs one win for 1,000 in his career.
