Bad Rusty surges, upsets MondayRodney Long’s Bad Rusty ($21.60) utilized his customary late charge to prevail in the $20,000 Open at Harrington Raceway Monday.
Driven by Ross Wolfenden, the 5-year-old Badlands Hanover gelding surged three wide on the final turn and swept by pacesetting favorite Mr. Wiggles in the final stages for a half length win. Mr. Wiggles held second while Sniper Hall was third.
It was the seventh win of the season for ‘Rusty,’ who is trained by Joe Hundertpfund Jr.
Driver Tony Morgan had four winners on the program, while Victor Kirby continued to have the hot hand with a hat trick. Kirby drove five winners on Sunday’s program. Corey Callahan also won three races Monday.
Wednesday September 8 marks the draw date for the 4th Annual Bobby Quillen Memorial Pace ($315,000, est. Final). Elimination races (if necessary) will be held Monday September 13. Entries will be accepted by calling the race office at 302-398-5970 prior to the 1 p.m. closing time of the entry box on Wednesday. |
