Solano preps for Quillen with win MondayJohnny Waite and Wade and Kathleen Wyatt’s Solano ($5.20, Corey Callahan) earned his ninth win of the year Monday with a 1:53.2 triumph in the $20,000 Open Pace at Harrington Raceway.
The 5-year-old No Pan Intended stallion received a two-hole trip behind pacesetting Mystique Cruiser who fought gamely through the stretch and held second after being outkicked late by Solano. Bad Rusty finished third.
Solano, trained by Waite, is eligible to the $315,000 (est.) Bobby Quillen Memorial, which gets underway at Harrington September 13. The Quillen is Harrington’s signature event, featuring some of the sport’s top aged pacers. The 2009 edition was won by Won the West.
Daryl Bier, Ross Wolfenden, Vince Copeland, Roger Plante, and Sean Bier each had driving doubles. |
