Stevie Hanover Springs Upset

Frank Chick’s Stevie Hanover ($37.80, Montrell Teague) was an upset 1:54.1 winner in the $22,500 Mares Open at Harrington Raceway Tuesday.

A full field of 8 lined up behind the Ford F150 starting vehicle, with Lil Miss Wonderphyl securing the early lead before race favorite Almost Persuaded charged to the front at the quarter mile in 28 seconds. Stevie Hanover, a two-time recent winner in the class, attacked first-over to a half-mile in 56.3 seconds with last week’s winner, Jett Propelled, in second-over position to three-quarters in 1:24.4. Stevie Hanover and Almost Persuaded were heads apart on the final turn with Stevie Hanover eventually wearing her down for her 4th win of the year. Almost Persuaded was second with Gogettermisscheddr finishing third. The Jamie Sullivan-trainee achieved her 13th career win.

Driver Tony Morgan won both halves of the daily double with Pure Princess ($2.80) and Lds Sabeanna ($3.20). The 68-year-old Morgan, who has 18,141 wins in his career, is second in the Harrington driver standings. Montrell Teague had 3 wins on the card, while Jason Thompson had a pair of victories.
