The Wiz Kids Stable’s Disturbed Hanover ($45.60, Barton Dalious) sprung an upset in the $22,500 Mares Open Tuesday at Harrington Raceway over a sloppy racetrack.
Race favorite Square Deal made the early lead at the quarter mile in 27.4 seconds and led the field through fractions of 57 and 1:27.1 while Lou’s Lucky Girl waited in the pocket and Lofty Treasure and Disturbed Hanover headed up the outer flow. Disturbed Hanover fanned wide in the stretch with the most pace and held off a hard charging Lou’s Lucky Girl for the win. Lofty Treasure was third. A 10-year-old daughter of Big Jim, Disturbed Hanover notched her 2nd straight win and 46th of her career for trainer Bart Dalious. She is approaching $700,000 in career earnings and took her lifetime mark of 1:51 as an 8-year-old at Bally’s Dover.
The September 28-30 week of racing at Harrington will be headlined by the first leg of Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) action for 2-year-olds, featuring $20,000 divisions nightly. The top 8-point earners from each division will return to compete in the $110,000 finals on October 12-14.
Live racing will continue on a Monday through Wednesday through October 21.
