Frank Chick’s Stevie Hanover ($9.60, Montrell Teague) was a 1:53.1 winner in the $22,500 Mares Open Tuesday at Harrington Raceway.
The 4-year-old Betting Line mare collared long shot pacesetter Fengshuiprosperity near the top of the stretch and earned her 2nd win of the season for trainer Jamie Sullivan. Jett Propelled was second with Fengshuiprosperity third. It was her 11th career win.
Crissman Inc.’s Some Waratah A ($7, Tony Morgan) won his 46th career race in his 115th career start in a $10,000 claiming event. The gutsy 12-year-old Somebeachsomewhere pacer set all the fractions and held off Truthfinder for a narrow win.
The first 10 races were won by 10 different drivers, with only one favorite prevailing. Brandon Givens was the first to record a double after prevailing with Prestigious Prince ($4.60) in the 11th, who registered a repeat victory for trainer William Bright.
In the sub-featured $18,000 Mares Open II, Mark Howard’s Gogettermisscheddr ($15, Pat Berry) used an impressive stretch rally to swoop the field late in 1:55 for trainer Will Reynolds. The win also gave Berry a driving double, joining Givens, Tony Morgan, Art Stafford Jr. and Troy Beyer.
