Joe Muscara's Mister Big (1:51.1) and Four Friends Racing Stable's Palone Ranger (1:51.4) each won their eliminations respectively. Mister Big is riding an eight race win streak for trainer Virgil Morgan and will be looking to add to his impressive bankroll of nearly $3.1 million. Sylvia Burke and James Koran's Maltese Artist is the defending champion, after winning last year's event from post eight. The 7-year-old Artiscape gelding finished second to Palone Ranger in his elim.
