Mares Open Ripe for an upset Tuesday

Jeff Clark’s Itz Cherry Ripe N ($18, George Dennis) pulled off an upset Tuesday in the featured $20,000 Mares Open at Harrington Raceway with a 1:52.4 win.  The Jeff Clark-trainee settled last (fifth) in the short field after Alpine Gold N set sizzling fractions of 26.1, 54.2 and 1:23.2. Meanwhile, ‘Ripe’ steadily gained ground approaching the top of the stretch and surged in the stretch, outkicking Miami Diva N in a tight photo for the win. Docdor Cam finished third.  It was the fourth win of the season for Itz Cherry Ripe.  Driver Jim Morand won three races on the program.
